![]() Thunder River was a great log flume that really feels like an essential piece of the park. At the very least, our tube slides are far more aggressive than Waldameer’s, so they should be fine.įollowing that, we rounded out whatever rides we wanted to re-ride or hadn’t done, allowing me to formulate opinions of the crowded flat ride collection, each of which are very well presented and fit within the park’s atmosphere. Last time we had a deflated tube on our slides recently, someone came out with a mouthful of blood, and if I were to knowingly send people down in any of these tubes I’d almost certainly be reprimanded. My only glaring issue was with the slide tubes, which all failed both of my waterpark’s inflation test methods. One of the things about working at another park or waterpark is that you become versed in the staff/policy side of things, and I couldn’t help but contrast the staff’s easygoing nature against our uptight weight and slide speech behaviours that exhaust me so. It lacks the speed, forceful laterals, and swooping drops that ricocheted the average Matt racer into popularity, and given that over the past few years Proslide seems to be prioritizing intricate layouts over genuine thrills, I’ll take almost any other racer slide over what I rode today. Experience-wise, however, the slide simply isn’t at all thrilling and barely exciting. From a visual and technical standpoint, it’s absolutely marvellous. The Rally Racer was installed on the limiting speed slide site in 2020 and packs a shit ton of slide into an ultra-compact footprint that it has no right fitting into. The waterslide collection served up some great fun, but going in I was pumped for one in particular. This will continue to see great investment - a new addition is set for next year and 2024 will see what is promised to be their largest waterslide yet. I really love just how tightly woven and old school the former is, while the latter is lacking in trees but has a dope hot tub. At this time, Water World feels almost like two separate waterparks the mostly older slides by the park and the newer expansion over the train tracks. Comet (x2) finally was a fun ancient junior woodie who’s tight trains wouldn’t leave my kneecaps alone, but the coaster tracked well and provided a breezily fun ride.Īfter lapping up some other rides, we headed for the waterpark and got our swimsuits on. Whirlwind was only my second of the seemingly-infinite SBF Visa spinners, and definitely less shaky than my first in Ottawa. Steel Dragon (x3) both tracked and spun impressively well until the brake run murdered us. The ride op told some hella cheesy jokes that I’ll be keeping so was worth it just for that. Nobody was impressed with my insistence to catch a lap on Ravine Flyer 3, but the hobby is what it is, I guess. We then proceeded to round out the other coasters. I caught some nerds with wind protection glasses and Six Flags outfits staring me down on my last ride my black Tantrum shirt might as well have been a thoosie red flag instead. The retracked turn diving back into the foliage and return airtime hill sequence over the bridge were by far the highlights. Perhaps the coaster packs a little too much firepower for its own good in the first half (and too much for my group), but I was more than happy to complete multiple laps throughout the day. It’s a ride that is (rightfully) commended for breathtaking views, a bonkers layout, non-stop airtime, and relentless pacing. Ravine Flyer II (x4) was my first long belated encounter with a Gravity Group attraction, ticking off one of the few major manufacturers whose coasters I’ve yet to ride (now down to GCI and Jinma). Upon receiving our combo wristbands, we beelined for said coaster. My sole expectations were that it would be an upscaled Seabreeze and that a certain wooden coaster was going to demand high respect. As a group we woke up earlier to get my hemp plants watered in record time (farm work never takes a break) and took off for Erie.Īfter sorting out some real estate mishmash, we arrived at Waldameer for 2pm. Waldameer is a park that has been high on my bucket list for years and when some personal affairs sprung up in the area, I roped a few others in. It’s been years since I’ve crossed the border for any reason, so naturally I was excited to return to the States for parks, although travel would remain limited between a farm that couldn’t be left alone and my new waterpark job. Be warned, this will be on the long side. The writer is aware that most readers will be extremely familiar with the park in question and having read a hundred Waldameer TR’s in their time I will be mindful of this while allowing for you all to go round one-oh-one.
